You will need N + 1 micro bits where N is the number of characters making up your display

I used a Pi3 but it should work fine with other models

You will need N diodes where N is the number of characters making up your display

Stand offs and m2.5 screws
You will need N x 2 where N is the number of characters making up your display

Fibre board
I used a bit of old fibre board but plywood etc would be fine

3.3v power supply
I used this LM2596 based DC-DC Buck Converter Adjustable Power Supply Step Down Module but really you just a 3V supply rated for the number of micro:bits you are using. Or just power them from individual batteries or a powered USB hub
